Altrusa 2010 - 2011 Annual Club Report
- 61% of club membership attended District Nine conference
- Received District Nine award for largest percentage of first timers at conference
- Won 1st place in the District Nine Letha H. Brown Governor's Literacy Award for our F.R.O.G. program
- Received the Distinguished Club Award
- Won 3rd place in the District Nine Nina Fay Calhoun International Relations Award for our Read to Feed and Boxes to Baghdad projects
- Won 3rd place in the District Nine Mamie L. Bass Service Award for our Make a Difference Day project
- Won 3rd place in the District Nine Club Communications Award
- Had 9 members with perfect attendance
- 8 new members--31% club growth
- September 2010 celebrated club's 8th birthday
- September Auction netted over $1505
- 2011 Kickoff with White House Black Market style show- 45 in attendance and netted the club $311 plus 3 new members
- April 2, 2011 will be the annual Altrusa Tea Party
- Club was featured 4 times in area publications
- Club Cookbook fundraiser brought in over $4720 for 2011-2012 Foundation budget
- $2850 in corporate donations from Garland businesses to support 2011-2012 projects
- 2011-2012 Foundation budget stands at over $9100—20% increase over last year
- Provided all facets of our F.R.O.G. program to Daugherty, Northlake and Heather Glen Elementary Schools reading to Kindergarten and First Graders
- Supported 22 at risk Third Graders with TAKS tutoring
- Held end of the year book fairs at all 3 schools giving out approximately 1600 books
- Read to Feed program included 1034 students in Second through Fifth grades who read 50,789 books—an average of 49 books per child a 53% increase over last year—they will send approximately $4500 to Heifer International
- Fun Reaching Our Goals the Saturday workshop was attended by 62 Fifth grade girls and their mothers from Daugherty, Northlake and Heather Glen—almost $2800 worth of goods were donated by club members and local businesses—there was 96% club participation
- Sent bi-monthly Boxes to Baghdad to our service personnel
- Participated in Relay for Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society
- Assisted Garland Federation of Clubs in raising $3900 for scholarships for graduating Garland ISD seniors
- 9676 hours of service donated by club members
Who We Are
Altrusa International Inc. of Garland is a volunteer service organization for women who live, work or have ties to the Garland/Rowlett communities. It is a networking club dedicated to improving these cities through personal service. Any woman living or working in the Garland/Rowlett area who is interested in becoming more involved in their community is able to become a member.
